Story of Aeaea

Exploring beaches only accessible through caves at low tide, Artist Hannah Nowlan and Di of Nunchi Oils traverse Point Nepean National Park. Inspired by the unusual rock formations eroded through the years by wild winds and waves. These weathered rocks sit on the edge of the ocean like petrified mystical creatures. Our imaginations run wild with the notion that these creatures are part of a mythical story and witnesses to an ancient time.

Hence, Aeaea was born. Inspired by a mythical island and home to Circe, a goddess known for magical potions that turned her enemies into creatures.

A wholehearted and immersive scent, Aeaea, blends ancient and modern essences to create a natural, perfumed oil. We invite you to experience the mythical world of Aeaea, our collaboration and exploration of art, scent and nature.

Artist Statement

Artwork print, ‘Isle of Aeaea’, is a reminder of the ancient world that came before us.

As the tide is pulled back by the moon, we precariously traverse a dark, rugged cave to be met by an untouched landscape. Footprint-less sand is evenly swept into intricate salt lines. We follow the shoreline encrusted with jet black muscles, rock pools and soft beds of kelp.

While the coastline feels soft and gentle in this very moment, it’s weighted heavily in dark and treacherous narratives. A balance of surrender to the landscapes beautifully alluring yet equally dangerous charm.

Lustrous aqua water creates a mirror-like film across the ridged seafloor. Echoing the illusionary experience created by mythical rock formations. Guardian creatures of the land. — Hannah Nowlan
